“Music is the pure expression of the human mind deeply enveloped in the melodious emotions of the soul. It allows thoughts and feelings to be recognized and communicated that otherwise would remain dormant. I thought I would have a career in piano performance. I carried this mentality with me until an experience I had while volunteering in the Alzheimer’s Unit and socializing with one of the patients. Her sentences were incoherent... I was informed she loved music... I played a song she learned when she was very young. Unbelievably she remembered all the words and sang with clarity. I knew then that I needed to study music and its undeniable interactions with the human mind.”
