“As I began to comprehend the scope of the problems facing our planet, I realized that if the earth were to be saved, we all needed to play a part in its rescue. .. One day, the batteries in my remote control car died. As I tossed them into the trash, something told me that sending them off to the landfill was a bad idea. .. Suddenly it occurred to me that more people might recycle their batteries if I did the legwork... if I established a battery recycling center right in our neighborhood. So far, I’ve kept over 3,200 pounds of batteries from leaking toxins into Portland’s landfill...”
